Not a comedy, as a lot of people claim, but a tragedy. And a gripping one at that. Performed and arranged like a theatre play, it basically portrays a bunch of people being miserable, with next to no music, and no audience.
Good music, great (as in huge) sets, excellent minatures, a silly plot, some exquisite overacting and a mighty crush-worthy supporting actress. What’s not to like? Can’t understand why I haven’t seen it before.
I decided I’d watch Blazing Saddles again, just to see if it still would be funny. Not only was it not funny, but worse is that even though I know it really makes fun of racism, it still feels pretty racist. But even worse, it just isn’t funny.
I got this because of John Hawkes, which I really like. It’s not that he’s the greatest actor ever, but he seems to have a good eye for quirky scripts.
