#200: Ghosts of Mars [2001]

I’m not goint to insist that Carpenter never makes a bad movie (cough, Starman), but as usual, he doesn’t disappoint with Ghosts of Mars, completing the conceptual trilogy on a definite upturn.

Numerous blogs and other besserwissers claims Ghosts of Mars to be heavily influenced by Rio Bravo and Zulu, and since I never got around to seeing any of them I thought I’d see for myself. It is perhaps a bit of a stretch, but I get what they’re on about.

All in all a memorable experience, even if Zulu stank, if I’m honest.

I liked the start. The first 15 minutes were a tribal mass marriage ceremony, that was like the best world music concert ever. Very groovy. Not such a fan of the endless british army-twittery.
