#200: Ghosts of Mars [2001]

I’m not goint to insist that Carpenter never makes a bad movie (cough, Starman), but as usual, he doesn’t disappoint with Ghosts of Mars, completing the conceptual trilogy on a definite upturn.

Numerous blogs and other besserwissers claims Ghosts of Mars to be heavily influenced by Rio Bravo and Zulu, and since I never got around to seeing any of them I thought I’d see for myself.  It is perhaps a bit of a stretch, but I get what they’re on about.

All in all a memorable experience, even if Zulu stank, if I’m honest.

Title: Ghosts of Mars

#194: Shinboru [2009]

A while back, I dropped my nexus on the floor, so the screen cracked.  A few weeks ago, months later, I noticed a small speck of maybe three or four dead pixels right next to the crack.  A few days later, it had grown to a very fine line, probably two pixels wide and maybe a centimeter long.

A week later it looked like this:

And now, another couple of weeks further on, it’s grown even more:

Where will it end?

Title: Shinbory
Director: Hitoshi Matsumoto
Score:   5/6
CGI: …that doesn’t suck!
