Spalding Gray: Terrors of Pleasure
Thomas Schlamme
6/6
As fantastically brilliant as always. Genius!
Resolutions, reviews, rants, raves.
The Pleasure Garden
Alfred Hitchcock
4/6
I have seen Hitchcock, obviously, but I haven’t seen it all. So why not get up to date? And why not do so chronologically, in a non-binging fashion?
I think silent films are absurd, and I’m really struggling with the format. That said, This is probably quite sexy for nineteen-snooze-and-twenty. And surprisingly dark. And a bit #metoo.
The Pleasure Garden isn’t commercially available as far as I could tell, so I watched it on the youtube.
The Lion King 1½
Bradley Raymond
3.3/6
According to the internet, this film is based on Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead. Well, I’m not going to tag it as a make/remake, but if I did, it wouldn’t break the pattern methinks, no sir!
The Fall of the Roman Empire
Anthony Mann
1/3
How is it that everybody keep running around going on about what a fantastic actor Alec Guinness is?
I mean, check out this bit of fantastic acting over on the Youtube. Somebody fetch a couple of Oscars! Quickly!
And so, 24 days later, we must come to the inexorable conclusion that where there should have been 31, there were only 8. Not good. So not good, in fact, that it may be time for another Year of Film. Next time there’s a new year, that is. Stay tuned!
